Samantha Sung has truly embraced the girls of summer with the debut of her line, S-SUNG. Sung is a textiles designer, her original prints are available in a gamut of colors, and all can be custom-ordered as shirts, tunics and a number of dress styles.
Sung, a native of South Korea, began her studies as a Fine Arts major at Seoul University, before moving to the United States to pursue design with a degree from Parsons School of Design. Her career in fashion quickly began after graduation, when her skills as an emerging designer, were discovered by Ralph Lauren. In less than one year, Sung became the Senior Designer for Ralph Lauren Collections and contributed her talent to the design team there for five years. She continued her career as the Design Director of Cerutti and their diffusion line, Cerutti 1881. Her designs were showcased in the Cerutti Collections in Milan and Paris from 2001 to 2005. In 2005, she returned to the United States as the Design Director for Tocca. Sungs influence at Tocca brought promising growth for the line. She is credited with changing the face of the label and bringing her Tahitian-inspired print ideas to life in chic and stylish ways.
In the Fall of 2006, Sung left her post at Tocca to pursue her own fashion label. Her line, S-SUNG, is characterized by her trademark, original prints. Sung designs as she lives; her process is as constant and diverse as her jet-setting lifestyle. In her eyes, design and travel are one, so interconnected that she cannot separate one from the other, or imagine either without its counterpart. Sung travels all over the world and sketches. She draws inspiration from exotic destinations and local culture, history and anthropology. She mixes elements of eastern and western cultures together, to find a unique harmony among the tradition and trends of both worlds.
Sungs Summer 2007 Collection was inspired by time she spent at her home in Bali. She was enamored by the local cultures ability to integrate bold colors and vibrant patterns into their daily attire. Sung spent a lot of time working with local artisans and researching the Indonesian ikat fabrics and batik chop dying processes.
More than anything, Sung drew great inspiration from the spirit of the island. She was empowered by the creative energy and the lack of pretenses that really encouraged her to develop a freedom of design. Within a few weeks, she had developed almost forty prints in close to a hundred different color ways.
The S-SUNG Summer 2007 Collection is an array of color and pattern. Sungs prints range from various tie-dye motifs, variously sized polka dots, and unique patterns, such as Tropical Fleur, Chagall, and U-Fan. All 100% Cotton fabric is printed by hand-done processes, and then cut into classically-shaped shirts, tunics, dresses, sarongs and kaftans. S-SUNG clothing is quickly becoming a chic yet comfortable fashion staple for girls on the go.
